Announcement about OVYM workshop

We are saddened by the death of Tom Mullen, Richmond author, educator, minister, and one of our planned OVYM workshop presenters. We do have another workshop to announce that is not listed in the program.

In 2008 and 2009, Ruth and Sam Neff led trips to Iran involving interested travelers from all over the USA. As well as introducing them to the beauty and history of that country, these trips allowed them to interact with ordinary Iranians. they were welcomed to the country as special guests, and experienced friendly hospitality. They look forward to sharing their experiences at OVYM through photos and discussion. Check out their website for a preview:

Seeking Friends to Participate in 2010 FGC Gathering Committee

for Bowling Green, OH

For many Friends, the Friends General Conference (FGC) Annual Gathering is the spiritual highlight of the year. The Gathering offers many opportunities for worship, reflection, fellowship, shared meals, workshops on wide range of topics of interest to Friends, inspiring and entertaining plenary speakers, and much, much more. We hope to gather as a loving people, seeking through Divine help to experience the Quaker way and to model an alternative way of life for one week. We seek to be gentle and inclusive of those with special needs. We seek to offer an extraordinarily exciting and memorable week to our children and high school Friends.

Needless to say, these goals can be achieved only through the participation of a wide group of committed Friends. . . .We need to begin planning for the 2010 Gathering in Bowling Green, OH, July 4-10, 2010. Therefore, the Co-Clerks of the 2010 Annual Gathering, invite you to join us in envisioning and planning a challenging, fruitful, inspirational week together as part of the 2010 Gathering Committee.

The Gathering Committee will meet several times: the second meeting is at the 2009 Gathering in Blacksburg, VA; the third in the fall of 2009; and the then daily (briefly) during the 2010 Gathering itself. The dates for the third meeting have not yet been set. We are cognizant that not everyone on the Committee will be able to attend all the meetings so please do not let that stop you from volunteering. Also some sub-committees may require additional meetings.

This email is being sent to all meetings and worship groups in Ohio Valley and Lake Erie Yearly Meetings, the Long Range Planning Committee of FGC, and some individual Friends. Please share it widely to help us recruit the 30-40 people needed to plan this Gathering. We hope many will feel led to volunteer for this effort. Please try to discern your gifts. We are confident that you, as well as the rest of the Gathering Committee, will find your participation rewarding.

Please fill out the Reply/Registration form online at http://www.fgcquaker.org/gathering/next-year.

In anticipation, Co-Clerks, 2010 FGC Gathering,
